Source scope: Published Forgotten Realms reference. Idlewood's campaign sources do not say it lies on the Sword Coast.

The Sword Coast is a coastal region of western Faerûn associated with the Sea of Swords. Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate are major cities in the broader coastal reference material. The limits of the Sword Coast and Sword Coast North differ between published accounts, so this record leaves the exact regional outline attached to its source era.

The wiki describes shared defense provided by the Lords' Alliance in northern coastlands and the Flaming Fist protecting Baldur's Gate's interests. Many inhabitants away from the main trade routes rely on their own defenses or outside help; travelers may hire guards or adventurers. These are regional conditions, not proof of a particular faction's authority over Idlewood.
