THE WORLD BEYOND THE GATE

(Player-Facing World Canon)

The world you come from is not broken.

It functions.

Cities rise, trade moves, armies march, laws are enforced. Most people wake up, work, eat, and sleep without ever questioning the structure that makes those things possible. Disorder exists—but it is managed, contained, redirected.

Power is not hidden. It is organized.

King Canaan rules through continuity rather than spectacle. His banners are familiar across the land not because they inspire devotion, but because they promise stability. Roads are kept passable. Taxes are predictable. Rebellion is rare—and short-lived.

Most people do not love the crown.

They accept it.

That acceptance is enough.

Authority in this world is procedural.

Orders move downward. Responsibility diffuses outward. No single hand is blamed for outcomes everyone depends on. When something must be done that cannot be acknowledged publicly, the system handles it quietly.

This is not considered cruelty.

It is considered governance.

Wars happen. They are measured. Limited. Fought for reasons most citizens never hear in full. Veterans return with stories that don’t circulate far. Borders shift slowly, if at all.

The world prefers tension over chaos.

Delay over decision.

Containment over resolution.

The Ninth Gate is part of that preference.

It is not secret.

It is simply not discussed.

Everyone knows of it. Few know anyone who has been inside. Fewer still hear details afterward. People who pass through the Gate tend to reappear changed—or not reappear at all.

This is not seen as injustice.

It is seen as necessity.

You begin this campaign as someone who understands the world.

You know how power usually works.

You know where danger usually lies.

You know what kinds of people are protected—and which are not.

What you do not yet know is where you fall in that system now.

The Gate is not the world.

It is what the world does when it does not want to answer yet.

What comes after is larger.

More open.

More dangerous in quieter ways.

What you survive here will matter later.

For now, understanding is enough.
