Record type: Established Idlewood character; current play position follows the accepted local checkpoint.
Identity: Garr is a human who escaped the Ninth Gate with Seraph and Hugo. He took a vow of silence after the escape and communicates through precise hand signs learned during his years in the Gate. (Campaign book: default party; character data)
Background and relationships
Garr is a co-heir to Corvin Marrow's farm. His Gate brand matches the three-tower foundation seal and responds to the mechanism beneath the farm. He recognizes details of the Ninth Gate that Seraph and Hugo do not. The campaign's prepared account says Garr chose silence after another prisoner was punished for speaking. That history does not make speech the required proof of agency: he may communicate by signs or other chosen means, and no one should speak for him without consent. (The truth behind Idlewood; chapter questions; table expansion)
Garr and Zed carried out the quarry staging and sent the red flare that drew Crown riders east. At the accepted checkpoint, both have returned to Crow Hollow, where Seraph has just warned the group about the boundary stone and the Crown diviner. The next choice is not recorded. Future material about Garr's brand or choices is preparation unless play establishes it. (Premise and history; accepted continuity)
Languages and possessions
The structured record lists Common, Dwarvish, and Silent signs. His source-listed belongings include a heavy crossbow, handaxe, gate-brand wrappings, and trail kit. The record's symbolic and equipment details do not establish what he currently carries. (Character data)
The campaign leaves open what silence means to Garr: refuge, weapon, or prison. The answer belongs to his player or to later established characterization. (Chapter 8: Through Darkwood)
Unknown: Garr's life before the Gate, family, and motivation for the vow beyond the prepared account are not further specified.
