Kes dislikes sending the watch hound into a confined, unknown space and hesitates when warned of poison or given a convincing order. Kes surrendered after Vance fell and survived. Kes wants proof that witnesses will be kept alive and gives information in exchange for concrete guarantees. Kes saw Maelin Thorne's name and mourning-pin disguise, knows the counterphrase “Stone stands where consent placed it,” and suspects Thorne may kill ordinary soldiers to preserve secrecy. Oris and Pellin are the other named survivors. Future testimony, escape, or extraction routes remain conditional. The sources use “Kes” without specifying a gender; this dossier preserves that.
