Role: Office of Gates field captain. Allegiance: A sealed royal faction within the Crown, rather than the Crown as a whole. Status: Dead at the accepted checkpoint; his signet, orders, and actions remain evidence.
Vance came to seize the heirs and recover the foundation disk. He enjoyed the status of secret orders and underestimated the farm's defenders. His instructions called for securing all three heirs alive, but he considered Hugo and Garr expendable if Seraph was captured. He received private instructions after reaching the inn, and Wren carried a document tube for him. In the accepted play summary Zed killed Vance from hiding during the farm defense; the watch hound also died, and three soldiers surrendered. The campaign book notes that Vance acted under a sealed royal faction, not the entire Crown. That framing should not be generalized into Crown-wide guilt.
