Relationship to published D&D lore

REFERENCE DOSSIER · 2 MIN READ

Preserved local adaptation or Roll20 reference. Its people, events, inventories, and geography belong to their stated source context; they are not merged into original Everterra canon.

Source correction: the owner-supplied world helper establishes Darkling / Everterra as primary setting canon. Forgotten Realms supplies reference material only unless explicitly imported. The remainder of this record describes the earlier local adventure adaptation; its First Gate and inheritance history are not silently adopted as original Everterra lore. See Everterra and Idlewood.

Rules and setting boundary

The campaign book says it is written for the 2014 fifth-edition rules released through SRD 5.1. That is a rules and creature reference, not a declaration that the campaign takes place in a particular published world. The local setting names places such as Idlewood, Corvin Farm, Crow Hollow, Darkwood, and the Ninth Gate. The imported Roll20 world handout establishes King Canaan as ruler. Exact Faerûn placement, kingdom name, world date, and chapel deity remain unspecified in the inspected sources.

See Using This Book, especially its rules statement, and Appendix D: Map and Asset Index for the campaign's original named locations.

Darklings and original campaign material

Seraph is identified as a darkling, with a body reshaped by the Ninth Gate. This local description establishes his campaign identity; it does not establish that every trait of a published creature with that name applies to him. The Ninth Gate, Office of Gates, First Gate, displaced-prisoner chorus, Corvin's inheritance, and Idlewood history are original campaign material. The campaign explicitly rejects treating Seraph's darkling body as a foreshadowing of evil; see Campaign promises.

The appearance of familiar D&D rules, creature names, or stat references does not fill in unspecified setting geography or history. In particular, no published-world placement should be inferred from the use of 5e rules.

Lore boundaries to preserve

  • Do not assign Idlewood to Faerûn or another official setting without an explicit table decision.
  • Preserve King Canaan as named by the Roll20 world handout; kingdom name, calendar date, and patron deity for the chapel remain open.
  • Treat the Crown and the Office of Gates according to the campaign's own established distinction.
  • Keep campaign-created Gate lore distinct from published cosmology unless a later source explicitly connects them.
